Open-ended questions
Survey processing generally involves closed-ended questions and hence we talk of quantitative analysis. However, once coded, open-ended questions can complement quantitative analysis. DAISIE is capable of processing simple textual or open-ended questions, but this type of question is generally dealt with beforehand by specialists. The resulting file can be taken in charge by DAISIE directly, in addition to the closed-ended part of the questionnaire, which has often already been processed. This avoids merging the files which can be laborious and a source of error.
Example of an open-ended question
In the table on the right, the open-ended question has been coded beforehand and then processed in DAISIE like a closed-ended question.
Comments on the table: the groupings by theme have been carried out in DAISIE.
